During the course of the 20th century, our country’s beaches have transformed from work areas to leisure spaces. However, this profound change has taken place gradually, and for many years, different uses and occupants have coexisted on our beaches.
In the virtual exhibition The beach, a changing space we present a selection of photographs from the photographic archives of the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC) and the Museu Marítim de Barcelona (MMB) which illustrate this process. The IEFC historical photographic archive has carried out painstaking digital laboratory work to ensure that the images feature all the richness of details and nuance that appear in the original photographic procedures.
