Ex-votos

Polychrome woodcarving that was part of an altarpiece of unknown origin, and that was presented as an ex-voto at El Remei Hermitage (Castell d’Aro). After years in the museum, this piece underwent restauration to recuperate its original colouring and to better understand its structure.

It shows a real town that has not yet been identified, and expresses the desire that the town’s patron saints will protect it. In the centre of the composition, a xebec with a striped yellow-and-red flag can be seen, although it was once hidden under another painting.
