Oil on canvas by Joan Llaverias Labró, painted in 1889. This painting is an example of the high skill, the brightness of colour and the neatness that characterize works by Llaverias, an illustrator and painter born in Vilanova i la Geltrú in 1865.
The theme of the painting is recurring in maritime art: fishing boats. Joan Llaverias studied at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where he began working with oils, but towards the end of the 1880s he began painting primarily watercolour landscapes and maritime scenes.
