Paintings

A representation of one area of the port, the Moll de Sant Bertran, with the steamer Joaquim Mumbrú (the former Puerto Rico), registered in Barcelona, in the centre. In the background to the right we can see the mountain of Montjuïc, and in the foreground are a series of barges used for loading and unloading, a man standing and rowing a boat, and another in a barge holding a boat-hook. One of the most interesting details is a group of machines known popularly as les bicicletes (the bicycles), a cable-car installation used to unload coal from ships hailing from England or Asturias.

A tractor cable was attached to one side of the vessel, and a series of buckets carrying coal were hung from cables powered by a tower on the dock.
