Paintings
Oil painting on canvas by Joan Llaverias Labró, painted around 1929 or 1930 and showing the port of Barcelona. Llaverias was an illustrator and a painter born in Vilanova i la Geltrú in 1865. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where he began working with oils, but towards the end of the 1880s he shifted to painting primarily watercolour landscapes and maritime scenes.
In this piece, the author represents the Port of Barcelona from the anchoring place of the sailboats of the Reial Club Nàutic on the Moll de Barcelona. In the foreground, we see a sailor doing habitual boat-maintenance tasks, like painting the hull. In the background, we can see the Moll Nou, with several emblematic buildings like the Torre Sant Sebastià and the Nuevo Vulcano workshop.
