Since 2010, Maritime Museum of Barcelona is working on the Management of Museum Information (GIM) project, born as a result of the analysis and auditing of the information managed by the museum. Its main objectives are to:
Modernize and improve our document management system.
Integrate the information resources (IR) generated around the collection, the library, the archive and MMB activities.
The creation of a technological model for supporting the management of information resources.
Documenting the policies adopted in information management.
Preserving the MMB’s Information Resources.
The implementation of the RIM at the Maritime Museum of Barcelona has significantly impacted the management of Museum information:
Definition and attainment of a data model that allows for the incorporation of any information resource from the Museum into the RIM.
A single point for consulting all the information resources in the system: pieces from the collection (objects, photographs, cartography) and from the archive (MMB collection and public and private archives), accessible to all Museum users and, soon, to external users.
An all-around consulting service that associates results with the files, documents and digital objects found in the Alfresco document manager.
The management of the Archive and archival records using a management tool connected to the Museum’s other information resources, thus allowing for the administration of metadata from documents as well as the management and administration of the document map.
