Sailing in the 21st century: A technological challenge

Educational program

The educational programme “Sailing in the 21st century: a technological challenge” (originally in Catalan, La navegació esportiva al segle XXI, un repte tecnològic) is a new resource for secondary school teachers.

As the 37th America’s Cup is being held in the city of Barcelona, the Museu Marítim de Barcelona and the  Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica have decided once again to launch a learning project developed in a real, globalised context that allows pupils to discover how technologically challenging a world-class competition such as this event can be.

Students will work on challenges with a view to learning about the oldest competition in the world, the teams that take part, the AC 75 ‘flying’ boats used in the competition, as well as the youth competition and the women’s competition, held for the first time.

Sailing in the 21st century: a technological challenge provides you with motivating, contextualised and globalised teaching material to help you understand how technology has turned the AC75s into the fastest sailing boats, and how the sea and the wind affect sailing, not to mention the historical link that the city has had with the sea.

The 37th America’s Cup sailing competition in the city of Barcelona certainly offers a new opportunity to bring the sea into the classroom. Are you up for it?
